All right, it's a new year, and so much has happened! I didn't create this blog to neglect it, so I promise to update more regularly. So here go my updates:
Launching The Play's The Thing
The launch party on December 17 was incredible. It was so moving to me to see so many great friends come out to wish me well and to celebrate San Diego theatre. We held it at the Lyceum Theatre, hosted with great class and generosity by Sam Woodhouse and company at the San Diego REP. I was so touched by Sam's words of introduction, as well as those of Pat Launer. Dea Hurston took the lecturn and asked for recollections from members of the arts community. Linda Castro and T.J. Johnson cracked me up with their remembrances of photo shoots past. It was a great evening, and a humbling one. (And I did my best to stave off writer's cramp after all those signatures).
San Diego Theatre Scene On-Air
The day after the launch party, guest host Cuauhtemoc Q. Kish very nicely had me on Dale Morris and Jenni Prisk's online radio show, San Diego Theatre Scene On Air. Kish was a great interviewer, and with call-in cameos from the likes of Linda Castro and Ron Choularton, what could be better? Here's a
link to the audio, if you'd like to hear (I'm on in segments 2 and 3).
"These Days" on KPBS
Had a great time being interviewed by Tom Fudge on KPBS's morning show These Days. He was sick, and I'll bet none of you could tell. Too bad I didn't post this before they updated their archives, I could have linked to the show's audio. I'll see if I can find a way to post it, either here or on the
Ken Jacques photography site. Stay tuned!
Los Angeles Times
The LA Times did a great story on the book last Sunday. Wow! They printed three of the photos, and did it ever look great. Lynne Heffley asked such great questions in interviewing me, so I wasn't surprised that the final article captured the book so well. Here's a
link.
KUSI Morning News
I did the KUSI 10 a.m. news yesterday. Sandra Moss was excited after seeing the book, which made the interview fun. And they flashed lots of the photos on the screen. It's always great to get the word out!
So summing up, it's a great start to a new year in San Diego theatre. The book is selling gangbusters, so stay tuned for news of a second printing!
